Craven Educational Trust

On Friday 02 May 2014 Craven Educational Trust was formed as a Multi-Academy Trust sponsored by Craven College for the purpose of sponsoring Aireville School to become an academy school. The proposed new name for the school is The Skipton Academy.

Craven Educational Trust welcomes and supports the appointment of a new Principal of The Skipton Academy following a rigorous selection process.

The Trust is confident that the recent leadership work of the acting Headteacher, and the new appointment of a permanent Principal for September, will allow the further development of a very successful and vibrant Academy to provide a first class education for the young people of Skipton, meeting the expectations of local employers and the community.

About the Trust

Craven College has established the Craven Educational Trust, structured as a multi-academy trust to support The Skipton Academy. The Board of Craven College is delighted to have this opportunity to act as an Academy Sponsor and support the further development of high quality and relevant education in Skipton and the surrounding area.

Why Craven College?

Craven College and The Skipton Academy will share a campus in Skipton and this will support close collaboration between the School and the College. A large proportion of The Skipton Academy students will progress to Craven College to undertake full-time Vocational programmes, A Levels and Apprenticeships with a high degree of success.

Craven College has a turnover of £16m and offers provision to all ages post-16 including Higher Education. The breadth of the scope of the Vocational and A Level provision is broad and includes very successful Apprenticeship provision. The partnership with The Skipton Academy will provide young people with an extensive range of progression opportunities to Further Education, employment and Higher Education.

Future plans

As an Academy Sponsor, Craven College, through the Craven Educational Trust, is very ambitious with regard to the success of The Skipton Academy and is looking forward to working with many local partners to develop a successful, attractive and thriving school for the young people of Skipton and surrounding area. The aim is to achieve high quality educational outcomes and positive progression to Further Education, Higher Education, employment and career opportunities. In this way the potential of the area’s young people is fully realised and the needs of the local economy and local community achieved.

Craven Educational Trust and The Skipton Academy will develop close links with employers to inspire high levels of ambition in young people and an understanding of work and the needs and aspirations of employers.

The College’s main campus next to The Skipton Academy is about to undergo a £6m redevelopment programme to provide more modern and up to date facilities for students. More information about Craven College can be viewed at the Craven College website.
